Discovery What you Love : Mary Kay
I'm loving this new commercial for Mary Kay. Great styling, lighting and energy. Typically I just fast forward through commercials while watching Project Runway. This Mary Kay spot is worth a watch!

Combo Mambo
bite bite, sip sip. deep dish combo mambo!
My oldest, hit rewind to watch this commercial and grab her brother to see it. "It's' the commercial we hear on the radio!" Then they began their own version of mambo dancing around the kitchen.

Old Spice : Hair that gets results
I saw this Axe commercial tonight. Yes, I am behind times. My hubby said it has been out for a while. I loved it. It's memorable, funny and surprising. My mother-in-law is visiting, she was not amused by it. I am on board any time someone shakes things up.

Target Commercial 2014 : Haim
I love that Target used the band HAIM in their recent tv spots. The music is perfect. In Minnesota, we are still suffering through one of the worst winters since 1979. Summer cannot come soon enough. I am so over my boots, scarves, gloves and layers of coats. Let's reveal our pasty lilly-white legs and frolic in some dewy grassy bits. I promise to shave my legs and paint my toenails. It will be a grand time.

AXE Susan Glenn
{youtube.com}
I have not seen much commentary about this commerical when I "google" it. I love it. I had grown tired of the previous Axe commericals. This new one, featuring Kiefer Sutherland grabs your attention. His voice is incredibly perfect for this, soothing, wise and thoughtful. The tv spot speaks to the men that are older and didn't go for the "gold" (so to speak) and to the young men a warning of sorts to not let this happen to them. Dreamy film quality, light music and perfect pace. BRAVO.
Peter Rosch wrote the script:
"I remember her. Not a girl.... but the girl. The brains behind the all-time top-10 comic book vixens only wish they could conjure a siren the likes of Susan Glenn. Beneath my feet my own private earthquake registered an 8 when Susan Glenn was near. In her presence, all that was beautiful before she arrived turned grotesque. And in her shadow, others became goblin-esque. If she approached, Susan Glenn didn't walk, she floated accompanied by pyrotechnics spectacles that left me feeling a foot tall. She embodied every desirable quality I'd ever wanted. In my mind, I was a peasant before a queen. And so Susan Glenn and I, were never a thing. If I could do it again, I'd do it differently."

Sear Appliances : The Beach
{youtube.com}
Read more about this commercial and Sears new strategies on forbes.com
"When running a campaign for a 125-year-old brand like Sears I have to be aware that some consumers can convince themselves that they know you. Meaning even if a person hasn’t shopped a Sears store or website in years they believe they know the brand because they have grown up with it, shopped it with their parents as a child, etc. With that in mind the tone of this campaign is “Surprise” to remind customers that Sears has a beautiful leading appliance line-up and innovation that can’t be found elsewhere. We wanted to pay off the new Sears tagline “This is Sears” with the idea of “this is surprising” tonality. The creative approach is definitely a surprise as most viewers believe they are watching an apparel or perfume commercial until the moment of truth occurs." - Eddie Combs CMO for Sears
The song playing throughout the 30-second spot is Chappo’s ‘Come Home,’ a tune from their EP ‘Plastique Universe’ and full-length album ‘Moonwater.’

Sir Can-A-Lot for SPAM's 75th anniversary

{bizjournals.com} This morning while I was switching my shoes after spin class, I saw this "kitchen Catapult" commercial. So of course, I had to dig around for more. I was too curious. Growing up my dad was a fan of Spam, must be a mid-west thing.
My friend, Dan Armstrong wrote this book about Spam.
"Austin, Minn.-based Hormel, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, says the 2.5-inch-tall Sir Can A-Lot is "ready to begin a crusade to rescue the world from routine meals.
The name Sir Can-A-Lot may remind people of Monty Phython's jokes about Spam over the years, including a Broadway musical titled Spam-A-Lot.

myLowe's commercial "sans cans"
{youtube.com} interesting article about the "never stop improving" campaign. It appears that BBDO is the agency behind this new campaign.
"Store your paint colors not your paint cans." The song is by April Smith and The Great Picture Show. My daughter loves this commercial. She wishes that paint could really move through the world like that. She also noted that this commercial ties to the brightness of the recent Target "Color Changes Everything" spot. Guess it must be Spring. Bring on the colors!
I'll wear your colors my dear
Until you’re standing right here
Next to the one who adores you
Whose heart is beating for you
Like a lighthouse guides a shipwrecked sailor safely from the sea
I’ll wear your colors til you come back home to me
Until you’re standing right here
Next to the one who adores you
Whose heart is beating for you
Like a lighthouse guides a shipwrecked sailor safely from the sea
I’ll wear your colors til you come back home to me
{youtube.com} This one minute video explains how "myLowes" works. Seems simple and helpful.
Ah yes, I forgot about this tv spot. Still a good one!

JCP FEB book

{calendar.jcp.com} I find the new JCP books to be a HUGE departure from previous catalogs. Amen to change. If you are going to strike out in a new direction, strike out! I also like how jcp.com now has a calendar page, highlighting special dates of the month. I am a crazy busy mom of the three. I love seeing thing simplified and pretty to boot!

missoni for Target

This bike is now selling for $1000 or more on ebay!

I totally forgot that Missoni hit the Target stores today. I heard that the downtown Minneapolis Target store was sold out in under an hour. I went to a Target near my house after work. Just a few things were left. I think guests would have taken the signing if they could. Many items are now listed on ebay! $1500 for the bike! I am kicking myself for not getting out there sooner.
The designers Margherita Maccapani Missoni, left, and Angela Missoni greeted guests last week at Target store in New York.
Margherita Maccapani Missoni in an ad for the Missoni for Target line of clothing. The tv spot is pretty cute. It reminded me of the one Target did a while back for "Swell" back in 2002?Target’s Web site came crashing down on Tuesday as Missoni-loving fashion devotées invaded, scrambling to buy the high-end Italian designer’s clothes for a song.
With its limited-edition Missoni for Target line, introduced on Tuesday, and other low-price designer collections, Target has been trying to position itself as the chicest of the discount stores. Missoni’s clothing usually costs in the hundreds or thousands of dollars, but it had designed a number of cheaper items for Target, like a $40 skirt in its signature zigzag design and a $600 patio set. However, the limited-edition fashions were more limited than Target might have wanted.
In an unusual fumble for the large retailer, Target was unprepared for online shoppers’ hunger for the items. TheTarget.com site was wiped out for most of the day; the company said that demand for items was higher than it was on a typical day after Thanksgiving, and that is usually the biggest shopping day of the year.
Target’s physical stores had long lines on Tuesday, and many sold out of their Missoni assortments in minutes

make something or be forgotten : levis

I am cleaning my home office. I just took down everything from my collage board. This Levi's ad is my favorite.
We are getting ready to move again. I am attempting to dump about half the stuff in my office. I hate moving so much that after every move I write myself a letter. The read the "previous move letter" before I decide to move again, to remind myself of how hard it is to move (especially with three kids).
Our oldest is only eight years old and this will be her sixth home that she has lived in. No, I don't work for the Army... Our life has just taken us in many directions the last few years. Fingers and toes crossed, I swear this will be our last move. I will be about 5 miles to work and 8 miles to their school. Instead of 26+ miles. No more 2 hour winter commutes in Minnesota. That alone should be enough motivation to move.... right?

home farming : triscuit

{homefarming.com}
Triscuit and home farmers like you are on a mission: to reap food that is deliciously fresh and healthier for ourselves and the planet. Since the launch of Triscuit Home Farming in 2010, home farms have been sprouting up all over the country. And it's only just begun. Here is where you can read all about the movement. You can even participate in community-based home farms and become a part of something bigger.
Guess I am late to this home farming movement. This video is from July 2010 and I am just now hearing about it. Enjoy! Ellen is always a delight!

the crunch is calling

{youtube.com}
I don't watch many tv commercials in my uber busy life. But I did catch a few of the wheat thin spots while my hubby was watching MARCH MADNESS. The Wheat thins crew track down folks that "tweeted" about wheat thins and make a commercial while visiting the unsuspecting tweeter. I think that is sorta fun! It is a good way to involve their brand apostles into the joy of a product and campaign.
Looks I am late to this party. This campaign has been going on for a while. My DVR soars me past most commercials. I think I have 12 hours of TV recorded and literally no time to watch it.
Marketing folks, when I fast forward my DVR, I never see your 15 sec spots. They are literally a blur. Something to think about. What if marketing people figured out a way to make a commercial become something more once it enters FF-mode?
BTW- basketball players. I sorta hate the sound of your squeaky shoes on the court. It makes me batty. I will be happy when March Madness is complete.

seven henrietta street : kate spade new york
this is the story of a charming girl
she laughs out loud, sings off key and believes in taking chances
she is quick and curious and playful and strong
she lets her imagination run away with her
she has never been one to stick to convention
she is fond of daydreams that take her places
she can order a cocktail in six different languages
she feels that understated is overrated

anthropologie : holiday 2010

Hello Anthropologie! I actually did not mind your frequent e-mails this holiday season, because they were do darn cute. I stopped by my local Anthropologie on Wednesday to give myself a mood booster. I love that store so much. I could move right in. All you need is a coat check (for the MN folks) and maybe some yummy hot drink that you offer in the cold weather. I would be like a cat dreaming with catnip dangling around my head.
