Get Zem Going : Toaster Strudel

Hans Strudel—a fictional, fun and quirky young boy from the magical place of Breakfurg, a place where people are happy and breakfast is served all day long—is the face of the campaign. His goal is to help start mornings off right by showing up at houses that need a little extra push to wake up when the alarm clock goes off.

While moms are the primary target for the campaign, the brand is broadening its reach by appealing to a new audience—the millennials in the household.

"This campaign will show a new, fun and magical side of Toaster Strudel with the creation of Hans Strudel and his homeland of Breakfurg," says John Williams, marketing manager for Pillsbury Toaster Strudel. "We think Hans and his persona will appeal to parents and teens in the household, giving them a little extra motivation in the morning."

According to a study done by Mintel, 8 to 12 percent of all school-aged kids skip breakfast. By the time kids enter adolescence, as many as 20 to 30 percent have completely given up on breakfast. Studies state that eating breakfast boosts your energy, curbs your mid-day cravings and helps keep you at a healthy weight.

Here is the new packaging. My youngest is convinced that the toaster strudels are "bigger" (enlarged to show detail). I like the new logo, it plays into the frosting realm. The Dough Boy is still making an appearance and the photography is a bit richer. Below is the previous packaging.

Muse : by wink

{thedieline.com}

"Some entrepreneurs from Australia decided to start a candle company. They approached Wink to develop branding and packaging for Muse Perfumery for 8 fragrances. All of their candles are hand made and all natural. Each candle is housed within a wood based package with a hand applied letter press label."

Designed by Wink. (I tried to find the Muse Perfumery website but it doesn't seem to exist?)

Ah & Oh : Babees Honey

{thedieline.com}

Wonderfully clean aesthetic from Polish design studio, Ah&Oh for Babees Honey. Naming, branding, and packaging was all created in the studio.

"A simple and little idea of packing for honey. We tried to treat jar as a playground for a character design. Dark cap and stripes made the idea quite clear. Through this project we tried to encourage kids to reach for honey instead of refined sugar. Especially for them we create logo which smiles bee’s face. It’s hand calligraphed, custom made, and it softens the overall simple, geometric look of the packaging."

batch ice cream

Design Firm: Devers Ink & Lead, Boston MA. Designer: Wade Devers

In the words of owners and small-batch ice cream makers, Susie and Veronica

"We are 2 gals making ice cream using ingredients that are local, Fair Trade, organic (where we can), and darn good! We’re making the ice cream fully from scratch…no one else does this, they use a mix that contains all sorts of things you cannot pronounce. Our all-natural ice cream is free of artificial flavors, artificial colors, and stabilizers, which means you can expect to have a smooth, fantastic tasting ice cream."

"Drawing influence from city neighborhood restaurant menus, written daily on chalk boards, we were able to imbue this artisanal brand with the right balance of hand-craft and whimsy. The labels are all hand-lettered and individualized by flavor. For example, each includes a unique "tiny landscape", a simple way to add surprise and delight for those who discover it."

Sir Richards

TDA Advertising & Design "started this company from scratch in partnership with Kreloff Equity Partners. It is a for profit company that donates one condom in developing countries for every condom we sell in the U.S. The design is intended to be more appealing to consumers than the very pharmaceutical offerings currently on shelf. The condoms can currently be found at Paul Smith, Fred Segal, Viceroy, and Whole Foods with plans of expanding distribution in 2011."

{illumecandles.com} Untill this week, I had no idea that Illume was based in Minneapolis, Minnesota! I was recently snapping photos of their Bella product line at Target. Then I went on their website as well. I love the packaging, all the pretty details, patterns and a wide product assortment. I love it when good work comes from Minneapolis.

longview vineyard's sparkling wine

"It wouldn't be a stretch to claim that birds are somewhat over represented on wine labels. When Voice was given the task of designing the packaging for Longview Vineyard's sparkling wine, W.Wagtail, they recognised the importance of creating something that really stood out from the existing flock of bird themed labels.
Drawing on the audacious personality of the wine's namesake, the Willy Wagtail, Voice modelled the label on the styling of bird watchers membership certificate from the 1940s. The ornithological subject matter was an opportunity not only to feature the local birdlife but also to feature the flora that exists around the vineyard, which hinted at the fruity and colourful flavours of the wine."

"Voice dutifully handcrafted the entire certificate from scratch. To maintain the soul and structure of the original vintage certificate, Voice created the fictitious 'Longview Sparkling Wine Society' and its list of patrons and committee members, which cryptically referred back to those involved with the production and crafting of the sparkling wine."

Evolve

{thedieline.com} I recently saw this packaging at Sears. It very nicely set itself apart from all the other packaging. I delighted to learn that it was designed by "Design Guys" in Minneapolis.

Package design for Evolv, a mid-tier tool brand for Sears by Minneapolis-based Design Guys. Check it out below.

"The previous entry level brand in the stores was called Companion. Companion was a line of low quality, cheap imported hand tools. Evolv was created to raise the bar on entry-level tools with better overall quality and durability and superior ergonomics. Evolv was created to appeal to today’s DIY handyman/handywoman. The corrugated packaging is a response to an internal initiative to eliminate PVC clamshells. We designed the packaging so that it was recyclable and could be easily produced by packaging vendors anywhere on the planet."
